Meet your guide, Rdouane

I was born and raised in the High Atlas, a Berber from Imlil, at the foot of Toubkal. As a child I loved the mountains, and nature has always felt like a good friend to me. When it was time to choose a career, I didn't want to leave. I wanted to work in my own place and give something back to the nature I love.

I lead my own team of guides, drivers, muleteers and cooks, and I manage Auberge Matat. What I'm proudest of is my guests: I do this work from my heart, and I take the time to answer every question.

★★★★★

Rdouane was an incredible tour guide for our mountain hike to the summit of Toubkal, Morocco. He was efficient, very well organised and made sure we were comfortable at all times during the hike 😁 He planned timely meals along the route with our very own chef and answered any questions we had over the 2-day trip. If you're looking for an expert tour guide with excellent knowledge of the local area, Rdouane is your man! Would highly recommend, thanks very much 🤝

Together with my group (8 women from Poland) we spent a beautiful and active time with Redoune. He took great care of us. He was kind, friendly, professional guide. The trip to High Atlas was amazing. He was helpful and gave us as much time as we needed. I highly recommend his service.

We did a 5-day trekking tour through the High Atlas Mountains over New Year and had an amazing experience. Our guide, Rdouane, was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and always kind. He guided us through stunning landscapes and traditional villages, sharing so much insight along the way. We felt safe and well taken care of at all times. Thank you for the unforgettable memories – we would definitely do another tour with Rdouane anytime!

Questions, answered

If yours is not here, just ask. Rdouane is happy to answer anything.

How fit do I need to be?

Toubkal (4,167m) is a demanding walk, not a technical climb. No mountaineering experience is needed, but you should be comfortable walking for several hours a day on steep, rocky ground. On the 3- and 4-day treks, the walk to the refuge takes about 5 to 6 hours and summit day is 6 to 7 hours. On the 2-day trek, summit day is much longer, 10 to 12 hours including the walk back down to Imlil. We set the pace to suit the group.

What about altitude?

Some people get headaches or feel tired above 3,000m. Walking slowly, drinking plenty of water and spending an extra night (the 3- and 4-day treks) all help your body adjust. Tell your guide straight away if you feel unwell, and he will slow the pace, rest, or head down if needed.

Is it safe?

You walk with a licensed guide (N° 1373) who has climbed Toubkal more than 200 times, supported by your own local team. He knows the route and the weather, and will change the plan or turn back if conditions are not safe.

When is the best time to go?

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the most popular, with milder weather and clear trails. Summer is hot in the valleys but pleasant higher up. In winter (roughly November to March) there is snow and ice on the mountain, so extra gear is needed and plans depend on conditions. Ask when you enquire.

What should I bring?

Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots, warm layers, a waterproof jacket, hat and sun protection, and a daypack. Message Rdouane on WhatsApp for the full kit list and to ask what he can help arrange.

What's included?

Private transport, guide, mules, cook, equipment and food. Soft drinks, mineral water, tips, sleeping bags and travel insurance are not. Each trek page lists exactly what is included.

Can you tailor a trip?

Yes. Tell me your dates, fitness and interests, and I will plan around you. Group size is flexible, from one person to 20 or more.

What if I need to cancel?

Rdouane never cancels a confirmed departure. If your plans change, message him as early as you can and he will work with you on new dates. Deposit and refund terms are agreed when you book.

Do you do desert trips?

Yes. The 4-day desert tour covers Erg Chebbi and Aït Benhaddou, via Ouarzazate and the Dadès Valley, trekking or by car. Ask for dates and pricing.

I have a question that is not here. Can I still ask?

Of course. Message Rdouane on WhatsApp. No question is too big or too small, and he is happy to answer.

Ask about your dates

Send a quick message and Rdouane will reply with availability and a price for your group. Questions are welcome too, big or small.
